It is unbelievably exciting to be in one place with ten thousand people from across the world, speaking a variety of different languages on the topic of leadership development and training.
Last week Fierce attended the American Society of Training and Development 2011 International Conference and Expo (ASTD). Our biggest takeaway was the global understanding that developing your leaders and employees is vital to the success of any organization.
The excitement that permeated the expo was contagious and Fierce found itself having a lot of genuine conversations with both attendees and exhibitors. The international presence was so large this year that it really brought a new resurgence of energy to the conference. It also reinforced how important conversations are to an organization and how as humans, we want to connect with one another. Businesses can only benefit from getting out of the way of ourselves and giving our employees the chance to engage.
There are many amazing things about such a great turn-out to a conference like this. First, it's incredibly reaffirming to see that so many organizations understand how important training is to their company's success. Secondly, you get the opportunity to build on that interest and show how to make leadership development and training successful within a business. We noticed that mobile and virtual training is on the forefront of everyone's mind. Fierce was excited to engage in that discussion by letting people know we are now offering a Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) option with Fierce.
We also had the opportunity to lead two training sessions covering our Coaching and Confrontation models. They were facilitated by our amazing Director of Training, Aimee Windmiller-Wood. Fierce loved the chance to share our ideas with the ASTD community and they, in return, were gracious and fun to connect with!
We also really enjoyed the activities that ASTD orchestrated for its attendees. This included an “ASTD Celebration Night” in Harry Potter Land at Universal Studios, Florida. Fierce, which is located in Seattle Washington, was not about to give up the chance to spend some time in the sun. We took the chance, before the conference began, to bond as a team. Keeping up with the international theme of the conference we made it a point to stop by Disney World, and then soaked up some sun poolside!
